Make his Jumper Fit YOU

Today I am wearing mens clothes head to toe...all been altered to fit me. For example this Fred Perry Jumper was a Mens size M, and is now a Ladies size 8.

How did I do this?

Well, I will be posting future videos and demonstrations on the details of altering a jumper. But for now, here is a breakdown of those steps:

Step 1.

Get a friend to pin it on you, or if there are no friends nearby then pin it on yourself or on a mannequin.

Step 2.

Keeping the pins in, cut off the sleeves first, and then the bottom ribbing. Keep all bits to one side.

Step 3.

Stitch down the sides to be smaller.

Step 4.

I stitched a strip of lace down the shoulder seams to cover the rough edges of the seams (I turned this jumper inside out because I liked the stripes at the neck).

Step 5.

Cut off the top of the sleeves to make them the shorter. I also cut the edge of the shoulders a little...because my shoulders are narrower than a medium sized man, I hope!

Step 6.

Stitch down the inside arm of the sleeves so they are slimmer, then sew them back into the shoulders. Adjust where needed to make them fit, as wool can stretch as you sew so the sides may be bigger than the new sleeves.

Step 7.

Finally cut the bottom of the jumper to make it shorter and sew back in the ribbing, making it a little smaller first, so it gathers when I wear it.

Done!
